YOGA

Hello ! I have been practicing yoga for over two decades now- what started out as a way to stay fit, physically and mentally has become so much more. At home yoga practices led to a fascination with hot yoga practice at a yoga studio in Baltimore. As my career took me to different parts of the world, I adapted to what was available. In Jakarta, I practiced Bikram yoga that was readily available near my apartment complex. In Kathmandu, I attended a number of low-key Hatha yoga classes available at the local studio near my hotel. In Karachi, heavily pregnant, and without options for easily accessible studio or private classes, I resorted to “you tube” yoga.

Back in the states, recuperating after the baby, I continued “at home- you tube” classes whenever the childcare schedule allowed. Once strong enough to go back to studio classes, I found that Kundalini yoga really appealed to me. I also found a yoga studio close to work and pregnant with my second child, I decided to take the plunge and complete the 200 hour yoga class. After the second baby was a year old, I found a volunteer position at the local library to teach yoga every other week.

While I started off with long practices that focused on proper alignment and correct postures, these days my practice is limited to a few simple poses that I hold for several minutes. My only condition is that I feel a certain sense of peace and calmness in the position, almost like a connection to a higher self. My yoga practice today aligns with and complements my daily meditation practice.

I believe in yoga that is accessible to anyone regardless of age, flexibility, or strength. I believe that the main factor that distinguishes yoga (from other forms of exercise) is the mindful intention (Sankalpa) and the mind-body connection. My intention with this web platform is to share my practice with everyone and on occasions to practice together.
